The Emigrant lake
Training Hill is east of Ashland, Oregon and is a perfect
place for paragliding pilots to ground handle their wings,
try out new equipment and practice launches and landings.
directions: 6 miles from I-5 take a left on Greensprings
Spur off rte 66 east
From the middle Ashland exit from Interstate 5, proceed
east on Route 66 also known as the Greensprings Highway.
After 3 miles you will pass the main entrance to Emigrant
lake on your left, then you will pass old Highway 99 on
your right after 2 more miles. Proceed one more mile (i.e.
total of 6 miles from I-5) on Route 66 and turn left onto
Greensprings Spur, a sharp left hand turn onto a dirt road.
The sign for Greensprings Spur is quite narrow and small,
and easy to miss. There is a parking area a half mile down
on the right near the lake shore with a restroom. The
grassy trail to the Emigrant Lake Training Hill runs
between the rest room and the lake shore. The training hill
is 500 yards from the parking lot. When the lake level is
lower, usually from July until April or so, there is a dirt
road along the edge of the lake that serves the Emigrant
Lake Training Hill. Late spring and early summer a short
walk with your equipment is necessary.
